Frequently Asked Questions
What is a Fiduciary?

A fiduciary is one who practices under an oath and has a legal duty to act in another party's best interest and is ideally free of any conflicts of interest. Examples include doctors, lawyers and CPAs.

Registered Investment Advisor

"Who and what is a fiduciary? A fiduciary is someone who is forbidden by law from acting in any manner that is adverse or contrary to the interests of the person receiving their services, or from acting in their own benefit in relation to their services. In other words, financial advisors are fiduciaries only if they are legally obligated to put the interests of their clients ahead of their own interests, refrain from profiting at the expense of their clients, and treat all clients fairly and equally.
"What is the duty of a fiduciary? To always act for their clients with undivided loyalty (full disclosure), good faith (fair and equal fees), and due care (skill and good judgement)."
Fiduciary Pledge

A Registered Investment Advisor is held to a fiduciary standard, which is considered the highest standard of care available for an investor. Registered Investment Advisors acting as fiduciaries provide all recommendations in writing, all fees and compensation are disclosed and all recommendations provided to you must be in your best interest.

Angel Oak Financial Services LLC is a Registered Investment Advisor and is held to the standard of a fiduciary.

"Fee-Only" Indicates Fiduciary Responsibility

Consumers and investors are often confused between the terms "Fee-Only" and "Fee-Based" and assume they mean the same thing. The distinction between the two compensation models can have a huge impact on the type of advice provided to you and the result of that advice on your investment returns.

"Fee-Only" means planners are registered investment advisors with a fiduciary responsibility to act solely in their client's best interest. Fee-only advisors do not accept any fees or compensation based on product sales. The only source of compensation the advisor receives is from fees paid directly to the advisor from the client. Compensation is paid in the form of hourly fees or a percentage of assets under management, or a retainer fee. Advice is totally independent of the products recommended, nothing is ever sold to the client and conflicts of interest are reduced.

"Fee-Based" means an advisor may receive compensation in the same manner as a the fee-only planner above but may ALSO accept commissions from the financial products they recommend or annuities and insurance products that are sold. Fee-based advisors may charge a fee in addition to collecting commissions.

Angel Oak Financial Services LLC is a FEE-ONLY financial planning and investment advisory company.
